The Save John Carter (Originally of Mars) Rally!

John Carter' Will Cost Disney $200 Million in Operating Losses- The Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/john-carter-cost-disney-millions-301704

“This is one of the worst marketing campaigns in the history of movies,” a former studio marketing chief told Vulture before the film opened. “It’s almost as if they went out of their way to not make us care.”- http://www.vulture.com/2012/03/john-carter-doomed-by-first-trailer.html

Oh, poor John Carter, what did you ever do to anyone? What did you do besides serve your country in the Civil War? It was on the Confederacy, but still, it counts, and you know it does.

Much of the blame for John's failure has been placed on the director Andrew Stanton. The film supposedly had a 350 million dollar budget and not a lot of clear direction. It didn’t help according to vulture that all the best scenes had already been reaped by movies like Star Wars and Avatar which it inspired.

This is not good. Not good at all. I swear if we piss off Andrew Stanton (director of many Pixar films), we are going to get a Finding Nemo sequel where it’s entirety is the death scene of Nemo’s mom, Coral (sidenote: is Finding Nemo just Taken with fish?) Will Disney take it out on us by raising the price of frozen bananas at the theme park to compensate for the financial loss?

Dark times hang over the Mouseketeers (how dare Microsoft not have this word in spellcheck) and The Happiest Place on EarthTM. .

Their pockets are  full of lint and their hearts full of sadness. I believe it is our civil duty to do what Disney has done for us since we were kids, make us happy when we’re down. Make us believe in the power of individual, make us believe that if we wish hard enough on a celestial object or throw money down a wishing well that our dreams will come true, make us believe that any type of animal can be a friend. They gave us our beliefs, now it’s time to give them something to believe in.

It’s time to make Disney believe in the power they bestowed upon us as children.

It’s time for a little Disney Magic.

So “hold on to your butts.”

I declare this THURSDAY to be:

THE SAVE JOHN CARTER (Originally of Mars) RALLY!

I’ll be at UA of Berkeley at 7:00 to raise money for the film by attending it in digital 3D, pay the extra money for the glasses folks.

And counting …down.
